Tour De Ski
Cross-Country World Cup
The amazing pictures of athletes lying on the floor after the final effort on the ski slope Olimpia at Alpe Cermis have travelled the world. The Tour de Ski, ready for its 11th edition, was born to trigger the emotions of a stage race, on the model of the famous Tour de France. Not riding a bike, but “riding” cross country skis.
The competition gets the cross country professionals to measure their energies in the two techniques – classic and free – and on different courses (long distance, pursuit and sprint) to bring out the completeness and ability of quick body recover of cross country skiers.
On Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th January 2017, the World Cup champions are coming back to the valley: the two last stages of Tour de Ski peep out on the snow of Val di Fiemme. The race venues are the Cross Country Stadium Lago di Tesero and the incredible Final Climb up the ski slope Olimpia at Alpe Cermis, whose steep course has excited public and mass media since the first edition in 2007.
Next January, the World Cup Tour de Ski is reaching Val di Fiemme for the 11th consecutive time, with the mass start on Saturday (ladies 10 km, men 15 km) and pursuit on Sunday, with the last 9 km between the Cross Country Stadium and Alpe Cermis.
The world stars fight for the prestigious title and arrive south of the Alps after five stages raced in the German Oberstdorf, in the Swiss Val Müstair and in South Tyrol Dobbiaco. Throughout a week, it reaches the Dolomites of Trentino to crown the heirs of the Norge Therese Johaug and Martin Sundby, winners in 2016.
