Where to find it
We are in the province of Trento, at 1,170 metres above sea level: Folgaria has 3,000 inhabitants and is the heart of the Alpe CImbra, 20 kilometres east of Rovereto.
What to do
If you are dreaming of a holiday in Trentino, in Folgaria you can try several activities in all seasons.
In the summer time, you can go hiking, walking, and mountain biking. In fact, Folgaria is the starting point for walks along the Sentiero della Pace [Path of Peace] - a trail among the forts of the Great War - and the Sentiero dell’acqua - where you can find the remains of craft districts like lime furnaces, and other rural buildings. You can also go on other excursions like the one to the Sentiero Cimbro dell’Immaginario, and the Belvedere.
Those travelling by mountain bike will find the routes of the 100 chilometri dei Forti [100 kilometres of the Forts], while those who prefer something less challenging can try Nordic walking, or golf at the Folgaria Golf Club, with 18 holes at an elevation of 1200 metres.
In winter, on Alpe CImbra you can ski on the 74 kilometres of slopes and 22 ski lift facilities of the Folgaria Fiorentini skiing district: here, you can cross the plateaus from one end to the other, and complete an actual tour, which provides great fun for both expert and beginner skiers, with modern ski lift facilities.
If, instead of downhill skiing, you prefer cross-country, around Folgaria you will also find the Passo Coe cross-country centre, which offers 35 kilometres of slopes, while those who do not ski can explore the surrounding areas along the trails dedicated to snowshoes.
Gourmet travellers can find numerous events dedicated to food, and can taste typical Trentino cuisine at the restaurants, bakeries, and food and wine stores in the town centre.
How to get there
By car you can reach Alpe Cimbra via Motorway A22, exiting at Rovereto Nord or Trento Centro, or along A31, exiting at Piovene Rocchette. By train, you can stop at the railway station in Rovereto or Trento, and then continue by bus.
