Trekking to Rifugio Finonchio

The Rifugio F.lli Filzi, inaugurated back in 1930, is located on the summit of Monte Finonchio, a peak rising east of the Volano plateau, between Vallagarina and the Adige Valley, separating the peaks of Vigolana (to the north) from the outcrops of the Pasubio Group (to the south). The ascent from Serrada (Folgaria) is pleasant and fresh, with modest difficulty as it takes place on a forest road (trail marker 104) with an elevation gain of just under 400 meters. From the summit, there is a wide panorama over Vallagarina, the Adige Valley, and the Bondone, Stivo, Pasubio Groups and, in the distance, the Brenta Dolomites and the Care Alto – Presanella chain. The small refuge, with its harmonious and traditional semi-cylindrical vaulted form, contrasts sharply with the modern telecommunications antennas that have somewhat marred the natural environment around.

Given its not particularly high altitude, this route is also an excellent alternative in autumn and spring periods.
