AN ADRENALINE RUSH IN TRENTINO
Trentino is home to a wide variety of adrenaline-inducing winter experiences: whether you are venturing off-piste in fresh powder, or climbing a frozen waterfall with ice axes, using the right equipment and venturing with the necessary caution are both vital to experiencing the harsh winter environment.
Ascending the ice
Ice falls are not only a spectacle to admire and photograph. When fully equipped, these crystal walls can in fact be climbed. With its 140 icefalls, which form on countless streams and torrents, Val Daone is one of the most attractive locations for ice climbing enthusiasts. Discovered by participants in the mid-1980s, the valley has since been nicknamed ‘Little Canada’ referring to its wide array of facilities and options for traditional ice climbing and dry tooling.
The most famous waterfalls have very original names that are perfect for telling your friends about: Sogno del Gran Scozzese (Dream of the Great Scot); Machu Picchu; Regina del Lago (Queen of the Lake); Excalibur. Access for all is from Lago di Malga Boazzo.

Ice falls can also be climbed in Val Rendena, Val di Rabbi, and Val Noana.
Soar over winter with tandem paragliding
Admire the enchanting scenery of the Dolomites from a truly unique perspective; gently glide over snow-covered forests, ski slopes, and mountain huts. Tandem paragliding is an unforgettable experience. An instructor will explain all the information necessary for a safe trip, from take-off to landing. Everyone has the opportunity to try this out, there is no special preparation required – all you need is a spirit of adventure. Those who are more experienced can also take off and land on skis. The ‘snow eagle’ experience is offered by the Ifly Tandem School on the Paganella Plateau throughout winter.
In San Martino di Castrozza you can end the day on the slopes by paragliding down to the valley, also on skis, taking off at sunset from Punta Ces, or Cima Tognola or Cima Rosetta and flying over the ski area.

Snowkite, a sail instead of a rig
While kite sailing is a discipline that is usually practised in summer on seas and lakes, in winter it transforms into a fantastic way to ascend the slopes without the need for a lift. To try out this unique experience and learn how to master kiting among the raging gusts at high altitude, you have to go up to Passo Tonale where the Nikite Snowkite School operates. Novices can register for the beginners' course, while those who have already tried it can try their hand at the advanced courses. There is a slope with a training camp for begginers and a more challenging slope for more experienced riders. For these, backcountry exploration days can also be arranged driven only by the force of the wind.

The wild side of a holiday
The technical term is bushcraft, a practice of learning survival methods in wilderness areas, using only the resources available in these environments. Learn how to survive without the need for any tools or aid usually available in everyday life. For example, learn how to start a fire with a tinder box and other natural materials, or how to build an emergency shelter that provides sufficient insulation from the cold of the night. Let the mountain guides of Val di Sole teach you their tips and tricks discovered through their years of experience.

Cycling in the snow
Fat Bikes are mountain bikes with very wide tyres (hence the name ‘fat’), designed to tackle snowy trails alongside forest roads. In addition to the traditional models, pedal-assisted models (E-Fat) are also available. The Dolomiti Paganella Bike Academy offers a dedicated Fat Bike rental service as well as dedicated routes. Daily excursions with DPB Academy guides are offered from Monday to Friday.

There are also several routes designed for Fat Bikes on the Alpe Cimbra. The routes can be cycled on your own or with a guide, with many of the routes found in the Folgaria, Lavarone and Lusérn area, between Passo Coe and Malga Millegrobbe. For the more adventurous there are also night excursions on the snow: you start at sunset with the peaks lit by the last rays, then the moon becomes the beacon that illuminates the route and lights up the snowy path.
