After a first asphalt stretch that takes you to Fontanelle di Faedo, you enter the labyrinth of forest roads and paths covering the thick woods of Val di Cembra that provides many opportunities for thrilling technical descents. A stop at the 'Roccolo del Sauch' is a must: this man-made clearing bordered with trees was formerly used for bird hunting, but has now been turned into an area for birdwatching.

Turn-by-turn directions

Moderately difficult route mainly on dirt roads and on the territories of three municipalities: Giovo, Faedo and Cembra. After a first asphalt stretch that takes you to Fontanelle di Faedo, you enter the labyrinth of forest roads and paths covering the thick woods of Val di Cembra that provides many opportunities for thrilling technical descents. A stop at the 'Roccolo del Sauch' is a must: this man-made circular piece of ground bordered with trees was formerly used for bird hunting, but has now been turned into an area for birdwatching. From Masen, as for route No. 1,head for Faedo on a tarmac road past Croce delle Serre until you reach Fontanelle di Faedo (nice park and large car park). Here begins a long stretch across woods. The dirt road to Sauch is never very steep, except for a short cobbled stretch that becomes gentler and gentler as you near Passo della Croccola. From the pass, take the descent to Rifugio Sauch. On your way down, you pass the Roccolo (visible on your left). You then reverse the stretch of road you followed earlier and arrive back at the pass. From there, take a porphyry-paved forest road with some steep stretches signposted for 'Capanna Maderlina' and, after a while, you reach the Lagabrùn biotope. From there it's only a short ride to the tarmac road that connects Cembra with Lago Santo. Go down that road until you reach a crossroads with a path on your right. Follow that path (No. 414) to Palù Sovina. There, leave path 414 (that swings right) in favour of path 417 towards Capanna Maderlina. When you reach a crossroads, turn right (i.e. do not carry on in the direction of Capanna Maderlina) and follow the signs for Masen instead. The descent to Masen includes very rewarding technical stretches. It ends at a signpost for the 'Sentiero naturalistico Mondagiò'. Follow that path. After a few stretches uphill, you are back at Croce delle Serre. At the cross, instead of following the short tarmac road, take a small, but obvious path that reaches Masen shortly before the hotel Fior di Bosco.
