The castles of Trentino between landscape and legend in the realm of night.
Every castle in Trentino is shrouded in a fantastic aura where restless spirits, black knights and conspiratorial witches roam: a legendary world that arose in the mists of time and that only in the darkest hours is revealed in all its mystery.
Nel Regno della Notte (In the Kingdom of Night) is a journey through more than a hundred fortresses, towers and manors in which Andrea Contrini's photographs veer between reality and fantasy, interpreting the fortified landscape through the imaginary.
The nocturnal images, created with plots of light and colour on the large canvas of darkness, enter into dialogue with texts that narrate the history and legends of the castles, offering a new and evocative interpretation of Trentino's historical, monumental and folkloristic heritage.
Nocturnal atmospheres are another cornerstone of my photography, where experimentation with techniques such as long exposure and light painting opens up a new and strongly interpretative vision: the book Nel Regno della Notte - I castelli del Trentino tra paesaggio e leggenda (2021) is a representation of this style, where images created with special lighting intertwine with popular folklore. - Andrea Contrini -
