Valle di Fumo, a continuation of Valle di Daone, is considered to be the longest valley of the whole Adamello-Presanella Group.

The hydroelectric reservoir of Malga Bissina and the valley cut by the river Chiese are the setting for this route, following an almost flat path and set in a postcard scenery surely not to be missed.

Author’s recommendation

To make less boring the dirt road stretch along Malga Bissina’s lake (approx. 3.5 km), we advise you to cover it by bicycle and then leave the bicycle at Malga Breguzzo, where you can place it under the shelter in front of the hut.

A rather long route, but suitable for families because of the low gradient.

Beware of the sun during the hottest hours of the day.

A push-chair may be used from the car park to Malga Breguzzo; the following stretch, however, is rather impracticable.

The path on the left is most used by hikers.

Safety information

Please note that the practicability of the itineraries in a mountain environment is strictly linked to the contingent conditions and is therefore influenced by natural phenomena, environmental changes and weather conditions. For this reason, the information contained in this page may have changed. Before leaving for a tour, make sure the path you will approach is still accessible by contacting the owner of the mountain hut, the alpine guides or the visitor centres of the nature parks, the info offices of the local tourist board.

Turn-by-turn directions

From the car park (1800 m), go down to the first hairpin bend on the access lane and, turning left (SAT trail No. 240), leave the lane to continue on a path that allows to cut out a section of the route.

You come to the road below, leading to Malga Breguzzo from the dam manoeuvering area.

Cover to the end this long stretch, set against the large Malga Bissina lake.

The road is pretty flat up to the end of the lake, with only a slight climb just before Malga Breguzzo.

The trailmark is SAT No. 240.

After reaching Malga Breguzzo (1826 m), you can choose to go to Rifugio Val di Fumo by following the path on the left or, alternatively, choose the one on the right.

Both paths run along the river Chiese (on its left and right bank) and alternate ups and downs, as well as flat stretches, until they reach the base of the mountain hut. One last climb now separates you from Rifugio Val di Fumo (1887 m), already visible halfway along the route.

Return is back along the uphill route or along the path not covered in the morning, thus making up a nice round trip.

Getting there

Enter Val di Daone. If you are coming from the south, turn left at the Pieve di Bono exit, heading for Bersone; if you are coming from the north, turn right just after the village of Lardaro (signs), heading for Praso.

You must travel the entire valley, about 20 km, up to the car park at the Malga Bissina dam, run by the Adamello Brenta Nature Park authority.
