A short distance from the refuge there’s a lookout point with views over the Adige Valley and where until 1979 the “Direttissima Paganella” cable car came up from Lavis. An easy footpath takes you from Rifugio La Roda down to Malga Zambana (1 hour, difficulty E), while Monte Gazza can be ascended in 3 hours (difficulty E) over Passo Sant'Antonio. The entire northern flank of the Paganella is covered by a network of mountain bike trails, but if you’re looking for bigger thrills there’s the brand new Ferrata delle Aquile - the via ferrata of the eagles - a route that’s in part exposed with Tibetan bridges overlooking the Adige valley from Cima Paganella with dizzying views (2 ¼ hours just for the protected section; the route requires a via ferrata kit and experience, although an alternative path avoids the most difficult part).
