Weather

The short trek that leads to Bocca di Vaiona unwinds quickly in the green open space of Viote del Bondone. The Bocca makes an exceptional viewpoint: to the north-west stand out the Brenta Dolomites; to the west, the Carè Alto massif; to the south, the Tre Cime chain; to the east, the Palon peak; looking down, you can see the whole Valle dei Laghi.

The small difference in height is therefore sufficient to enjoy fabulous views. The Brenta Group is displayed in all its extraordinary beauty, especially in the morning when the sun shines on its eastern side.

A quick detour to the right allows to climb Roste del Bondone, the grassy ridge north of Bocca di Vaiona and a little higher. From there the views range even further.

Turn-by-turn directions

From Le Viote, start walking westward on the narrow forest road leading to the wide meadows of Torbiera delle Viote (moor) (trail mark No. 607).

You reach the meadows near a fence where you can see a sign bearing various indications.

Continue in a south-westerly direction towards “Bocca di Vaiona”. Follow the mule track that climbs with a moderate slope up to Bocca di Vaiona (1695 m), marked by a SAT sign.

Return is along the ascent route.

NB:

From the pass, a quick detour to the right allows to climb Roste del Bondone, the grassy ridge north of Bocca di Vaiona and a little higher. From there the views range even further.

Getting there

Starting from Trento, drive up towards Bondone along national road No. 85 (SP85), passing through Candriai and Vanezze. You reach the top of the climb near Vason (1631 m). From here you descend westward towards Viote, a village known in winter for its beautiful cross country skiing tracks.

At the Viote crossroads turn left towards Garniga-Aldeno and drive for another 500 m until you reach a few spots where the road widens and you can park on the side.
