This trekking itinerary travels at the feet of the south-west slopes of Pietra Grande, in the Grostè area. After passing Malga Boch the track heads towards the small but charming lake Spinale. Trail No. 331 then crosses over panoramic meadows with wonderful views of the Brenta range. Marmot whistles will accompany trekkers all the way to the arrival at Rifugio Graffer. The departure point is located in Pozza Vecia (a locality about 4 km away from downtown Madonna di Campiglio) where you can leave the car in a free parking area. You can also depart directly from town and climb up with the Spinale cabinway. From the arrival station in a short time you can reach the described track near Malga Boch (trail No. 331).

Turn-by-turn directions

Start off at Pozza Vecia locality, slightly north of the town of Madonna di Campiglio. After leaving the car, follow the forest road along the ski piste. Climb up in this way until you reach the Pozza Bella esplanade at 1937 m. Here there is a crossroads at which you must turn right towards the visible mountain dairy, the profile of which is set against the horizon in a south-east direction.

Keep following the forest road until you reach the dairy building rising behind it.

Go to the back of the dairy and follow the trail (ignore the crossroads to the right that belongs to the Dolomiti di Brenta Bike itinerary) marked by visible stakes driven into the ground.

Follow the trampled trail that crosses through the green pastures and you will quickly reach the charming Spinale lake.

Leave the small lake on your right and walk up to a sign panel (bearing the text "Lago Spinale") and turn left flowing the indications for trail No. 331 “Rifugio Graffer".

After crossing wonderful glades offering spectacular views of the Brenta range, the trail leads under the Grostè cabinway ropes up to Rifugio Graffer, the excursion’s natural rest point.

Return along the forest road that travels over the ski piste and reaches the Boch restaurant-snack bar (2070 m). From there, follow the forest road or the track along the ski piste back to the departure point.

Getting there

Travel to Madonna di Campiglio on the SS239 national road of Val Rendena (from either the Giudicarie valleys or from Val di Sole) . Reach the Grostè lift station along the tunnel that bypasses the downtown area. Cross the Grostè parking area (do not pay the ticket! Tell the carpark guard you are headed for Pozza Vecia) and follow the forest road in the direction of the Golf Course and on towards Rifugio Montagnoli/Graffer. At the crossroads for Rif. Montagnoli (to the right) turn left on the forest road and you will quickly reach the Pozza Vecia free parking area.
