WINTER IN TRENTINO

Thanks to new investments by lift companies, skiers can now enjoy even more quality snow throughout the season. Fast and comfortable lifts ensure easy transportation up the mountain, and cheaper and more convenient passes are now being sold online, making organizing your trip effortless. Technological solutions created through this investment have made skiing in Trentino an even greater experience, all while reducing the overall resource consumption of the resort.

The season starts as early as 26 November in Trentino, gradually leading to a complete opening of all the resorts by 11 December.

Thanks to major investments into the facilities and efficiency of the snowmaking process, skiers can rest assured in the opening date of the season and can be confident that there will be plenty of fantastic snow ready to be explored. New construction technologies have led to faster, more comfortable, and more efficient cableway systems, making it easier to experience all of the amazing slopes on offer across the resort.

Trentino offers 800km of slopes, most of which are distributed between the Dolomiti Superski (350km) and the Skiramam Dolomiti-Adamello Brento (almost 400km), with 227 fast and comfortable lifts providing quick and easy access throughout the resort.

Head online for cheaper passes

Madonna di Campiglio offers a ‘dynamic’ ski pass, enabling skiers to pay per amount they ski. The Starpass enables those who ski more to pay less: once skiers have reached the first threshold of use, they will automatically receive a discount on subsequent passes. Insider tip: a daily pass bought online in advance is always cheaper than one bought at the ticket office.

The Pontedilegno-Tonale resort also offers dynamic discounts of up to 25% with the new Smart Skipass. Book quickly as there are limited numbers of online passes which are cheaper than any bought at the ticket office!

A new online system can also be found in Paganella, in the Brenta Dolomites. Purchase your pass in advance, load it onto the new Paganella Open Pass card, and collect it at a cash machine or in your hotel so you can get straight out onto the slopes on your fist day. Next winter, MyPass Ski, Pay Per Use, and Snowit services will also all be available with discounts for all passes purchased online.

Finally, Alpe Cimbra now allows skiers to purchase their pass online and upload it directly to their smartphone, effectively eliminating the production, use, and subsequent disposal of keycard plastic. The Snowit, MypassSki and TelepassPay services are available for the online purchase of ski passes, joined this season by AltoSki, which is popular in several other European countries.

From the airport to the slopes with the FlySki Shuttle

From 10 December to 2022 to 26 March 2023, the main ski resorts in Trentino will have direct transfers to and from airports in Verona, Bergamo, Milan-Linate, Milan-Malpensa, Venice, Treviso, and Bolzano, as well as the railway stations in Venice-Mestre, Central Milan and Trento. The FlySki Shuttle service operates to and from the following resorts: Val di Fassa, Val di Fiemme, San Martino di Castrozza-Passo Rolle-Primiero, Val di Sole-Passo del Tonale, Madonna di Campiglio-Pinzolo-Folgarida.

New this year in San Martino di Castrozza, Latemar and Paganella

This year San Martino di Castrozza – Passo Rolle resort welcomes the opening of a new lift service on Alpe Tognola: the four-seater Cima Tognola which replaces the two-seater of the same name. The lift will connect the Tognola-Ces connection and the ‘Cima’ slope, considerably shortening the time it takes to reach the Ces area from Tognola. Ascend the Tognola in just 6 minutes to enjoy the 5km Fantasia 2,000 track down the valley, ending at the base of the Tognola cable car.

Two slopes and one restaurant will open this year in the Latemar Ski Centre, the largest ski resort in the Val di Fiemme – Obereggen area. The resort promises fantastic skiing with the addition of the new ‘Campanil 2’, the blue slope that accompanies the renovated Campanil chairlift, an advanced automatic coupling chairlift with padded seats. The lift has a higher hourly capacity than its predecessor despite its lower energy consumption. In addition to the ‘Campanil 2’, the Zanggen slope is also opening this year.

In Predazzo, the In.Treska panoramic restaurant is ready to open its doors at the top of the Tresca chairlift. It offers an advanced gastronomical experience, aiming to surprise visitors’ palate with a thoughtful mix of tradition, authenticity, and modernity, all at 2,200m altitude.

Paganella also welcomes skiers with two exciting new additions to the resort. The slope which returns skiers to Andalo has been expanded to make the descent safer and more comfortable. The Gaggia has also been widened to a width of 40m. The second new addition is the expansion of the Snowpark Dosson. There is a new jump for the more experienced skier, as well as a new course for beginners and younger skiers with fun and thrilling bumps, twists, and turns.

Must-see sporting events

The 3Tre slalom, Madonna di Campiglio - 22 December

The 3Tre di Madonna di Campiglio returns once again as part of the Audi Fis Ski World Cup Alpine circuit. It is now over sixty years old but remains as exciting as ever. The ‘Snow Queen’ slope stretches along the Canalone Miramoti and is one of the most technical and challenging in the entire circuit. The slalom is held at night under the stars, in the presence of the Brenta Dolomites for a truly spectacular atmosphere.

FIS Tour de Ski, Val di Fiemme -  6-8 January

From 6 to 8 January, the Fis Tour de Ski will land in Val di Femme for the final stage of the Nordic skiing event. A 10km challenge for women and 15km for men, with an incredible Final Climb to follow the next day. Participants will compete at the Lago di Tesero cross-country skiing track before heading on to the impressive Olimpia slope at Alpe Cermis, where the steep gradients truly test the athlete’s technical skills as well as their strength.

Half a century of the Marcialonga di Fiemme and Fassa, 29 January

The Marcialonga di Fiemme and Fassa returns next year on 23 January. It is an international cross country ski race that requires participants (affectionately referred to as ‘bisonti’) to cover 70km using only classical technique and is often named ‘the queen of the Nordic races’. The competition is part of the FIS Marathon Cup circuit, the world cup for long distance skiing.
