Danilo Rossi, New Gipsy Project

Not only does Danilo Rossi hold the prestigious place of first viola in the Orchestra Theatre of La Scala, he is also a loyal friend to the festival. And, as he knows well, using musical categories to define a project can prove restrictive.

Over time, we have learnt all about his passion for his instrument and his fascination with experimentation; further confirmed this year with the début of a courageous piece of work in the company of the New Gipsy Project. The whole of this project is greater than the sum of its parts, transporting us through time, crossing its limits and defying any static definition.

Together with Albert Florian Mihai on the accordion, Marian Serban on the cimbalom and Nicolae Petre on the double bass, Danilo Rossi and his viola will be our gateway to a rediscovery of romantic and contemporary composers like Dvorak, Brahms and Bartok among others, who were able to straddle dichotomies and draw from the rich folk repertoire of gipsy tradition with inspiration and a lack of prejudice.

Route: Ascending from Pinzolo by cable car (at participants’ expense) to Doss del Sabion, before proceeding towards Malga Bregn da l’Ors and by Madonnina to reach the concert venue.
