Museo della Guerra Skoda

Entitled "The cannon that came from the ice – fragments of life, war and death", the interactive exhibition space is located on the thirdfloor of the Diomira house in the town of Giustino. The museum recounts the recovery and restoration project, as well as the history, of the large ŠKODA 10.4 cannon serial number 254, which came to light in the summer of 2000 at an altitude of 3,171 metres in the high Nardis Valley, in the Adamello-Presanella group.

Recovered in August 2003, it was carefully restored by the Superintendence of Trento, in collaboration with the War Museum of Rovereto and the operational support of the "Veronesi" Vocational Training Centre of Rovereto and the heavy maintenance centre of the Piacenza Army. Built in 1917, the artifact is now on the top floor of the building, where it is accompanied by a permanent set-up arranged in large panels bearing  evidence of the Great War, including vintage images and a brilliant selection of movable finds recovered on the ice of the Adamello-Presanella mountains. An interactive model reproduces the continuous changes undergone over time by the Adamelline war front, while interactive screens offer vintage films that show the transport of the famous guns at high altitude (the "Giorgio" and the Skoda 10.4), tell the story of "The Skoda factory", of the same cannon on display, of its recovery and restoration. The faithful reconstructions of a high mountain wooden station and the apparatus surrounding the cannon immerse the visitor in the size of the conflict between the Adamello glaciers.
