Lake Ledro Pile-dwelling Museum
Let’s experience the lives of our ancestors at the Pile-Dwelling Museum of Lake Ledro
A snack with the shaman, “Palafittiadi”, The age of rock…
In 1929 the waters of Lake Ledro were lowered to build the hydroelectric power plant of Riva del Garda. That is how one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of the century came about: as many as 11 thousand piles belonging to a pile-dwelling village from the Bronze Age (c. 1800-1300 B.C.).
The findings excavated in subsequent campaigns are now displayed in the Museo delle Palafitte, on the eastern shores of Lake Ledro.
They are objects crafted and used by men and women who lived more than 4 thousand years ago, exquisite handicraft products of one of the most important pile-dwelling villages in the whole of the Alps.
A branch of MUSE, the Museo delle Palafitte devotes much attention to ecological and environmental education and to teaching activities, with imitative archaeology and theatrical entertainment, always fun and engaging.
