Between art and history
ATTENTION: The opening of cultural and tourist sites, access to them, to public transport and to the services described in these pages is governed by the containment measures put in place by the government authorities and the Autonomous Province of Trento to deal with the COVID-19 health emergency. The rules may vary over time and provide for the application of different security measures — from closure, to social distancing, to the mandatory use of personal protective equipment such as gloves and masks.
We therefore ask you to contact the service managers directly for updated information on how to gain access.
The castle, owned by the Prince Bishops of Trento from the 12th century onward, was the residence of the captain in charge of managing the surrounding territory.
The link with the Prince Bishops is also documented in one of the frescoes of the Cycle of the Months in Torre Aquila in Trento, the one where ladies and knights play snowballs, which precisely depicts the Stenico Castle.
Today the building hosts exhibitions, concerts and shows. The castle can be reached from the village of Stenico through a steep ramp that leads to its entrance. Do not miss, inside, a fine archaeological section dedicated to local history and an exhibition of furniture, frescoes, weapons and old tools from the collections of the Buonconsiglio Castle Museum in Trento, of which the manor is a branch.
Castel Stenico has recently been appointed to house the representative office of the Unesco Biosphere Reserve “Alpi Ledrensi e Judicaria”.
