Spring is here and two unmistakable signs get us emotional about it: the chirping of songbirds and the colourful patches of blossom across our valleys and mountains. This is the season when the alpine pastures in Trentino are covered in carpets of wild flowers blossoming at different times and altitudes.

So, let’s say goodbye to the cold, gloomy winter and let’s find hope in the sunny days of Spring. Maybe enjoying, even if only virtually, the wild flowering of Trentino.

FROM MID-APRIL TO LATE MAY, AT 500m OF ALTITUDE

Where?

On the hills near cultivated land, orchards and vineyards. Popular spots in Trentino are: Valle del Chiese, Val di Gresta, Terlago and Bassa Valsugana.

Type of flower

Among the most common flowers blossoming in this period are: Clover flower, wild Orchid and wild Thyme.

FROM MID-MAY TO MID-JUNE, UP TO 1000m OF ALTITUDE

Where?

At lower mountain levels, like Val di Ledro, Bleggio, Banale, Paganella, Valfloriana, Val di Cembra, also in Primiero and the surroundings of Canal San Bovo, Fiera di Primiero, Mezzano and Sagron Mis.

Type of flower

In late Spring you can enjoy the sight of: Daisies, Buttercups, Savia Sylvestris (Sage), Achillea (Common Yarrow), Red Lilies and Harebells.

FROM LATE MAY TO LATE JUNE, BETWEEN 1000m AND 1500m OF ALTITUDE

Where?

Across mountain fields and pre-alpine highlands in central-northern valleys of Trentino, but particularly in Vallarsa, Val Breguzzo, Rabbi, Pejo, Andalo, Val Campelle & Calamento, also in Cavalese, in Val di Fassa & in Val Canali.

Type of flower

Growing at this altitude you will find: Yellow Oat Grass, Mountain Clover, Wood Cranesbill, Bird’s foot Trefoil, and Dandelion. .

FROM MID-JUNE TO LATE JULY, ABOVE 1500m OF ALTITUDE

Where

At high altitude across the pastures of Storo, Viote – Bondone, Tonale Pass, Monte Peller, Bellamonte – Predazzo, Alta Val di Fassa extending to the lateral valleys, Val Noana, San Martino di Castrozza and its surroundings.

Type of flower

Commonly found in these areas are: Globeflower, White Lily, Rampion, Turk’s cup Lily, White Buttercup and Alpine Gentian
