Rovereto and surrounding areas

An itinerary through vineyards and gourmet offers

Trentino is an area suited to the production of quality wine.

The highest concentration of wineries is in Vallagarina. Here viticulture has shaped the landscape.

And it is here that your passion will have countless places to explore and stories to tell, with toasts with Trentodoc and unmissable tastings of the most identifiable red wines, such as Marzemino, Casetta or Enantio. And there is more.

Medieval places to visit in Trentino in the autumn - from September to November

Ala - Avio

Vallagarina is also the land of Merlot, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Müller Thurgau. The Enotour of Borgo dei Posseri of Ala offers a rich list of tastings directly in the vineyard. With map in hand and a basket of wine and food products delivered upon departure, you can set off on your own to explore the “multisensory” journey set up on the estate: at each stop, you will find a different wine, to be enjoyed right next to the vineyard where it was born.

In just twenty minutes by car you can reach the Avio Castle, a FAI (National Trust of Italy) property. A magical place where towers and crenellated walls surround a wonderful garden of vines and cypresses, and guard the history of the Castelbarco, a noble family that has made the life of this manor over the centuries. Inside you can admire wonderful fresco cycles and visit “The Chamber of Love”. And then enjoy a gourmet opportunity and relaxation at the castle inn, which offers a typical and carefully prepared menu.

Historical places to visit in September and October in Rovereto, Trentino, North Italy

Rovereto…

From Avio to Rovereto, the distance is short. A stop at the MART, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, or the futuristic Casa Depero, is a must. If you prefer science to art, visit the Civic Museum of Rovereto, where you can even embark on a journey among the stars, in the new Planetarium. If you are passionate about history, the address to note is that of the War Museum.

In short, there is no shortage of options, even for true gourmands and explorers of taste. Like Osteria del Pettirosso, with its rooms created from ancient cellars and fascinating vaulted stone ceilings. Or the Il Doge restaurant, which offers typical “deluxe” cuisine. For a “gem” of taste and culture, the advice is to go to Caffè Bontadi which, in addition to being the oldest roasting house in Italy and offering blends for every taste, boasts a private collection of coffee-related instruments that tell over two centuries of history in 300 pieces. All to be admired.

With a suggestive walk through the city woods, you will reach the panoramic Balter Farm which, with its medieval castelliere, offers a truly privileged view of Vallagarina. You must try the Trentodoc sparkling wine that can also be sipped in the garden during the summer.

A Taste Journey in Vallagarina

… and surrounding areas

Nearby Isera also has many food surprises in store, such as Locanda delle Tre Chiavi, the recipient of a Slow Food Snail of Approval award. It is an intimate and welcoming place, with a pleasant outdoor courtyard, where catering becomes a true cultural expression.

Not far away is Casa del Vino, a catering project born of the partnership among more than thirty wineries, but also Vineria De Tarczal, which completes the experience offered by the production cellar bearing the same name. Once here, it is worth climbing up to the ruins of Castel Corno to admire the panorama from a privileged spot.

A Taste Journey in Vallagarina

For lovers of mountain sparkling wines, a stop at Grotta dello Spumante di Pedrotti, in Nomi, is a must: a former air raid shelter, this location is today the kingdom of toasts and tastings among riddling racks. It can also be reached on a bike, perhaps rented at the ApT info point in the Rovereto train station, as you get off the train. The bicycle trail, which runs along the Adige river, offers a route suitable for everyone, in the name of a “slow” and sustainable holiday.

If you prefer grappa, spirits and bitters to wine, mark your calendar for a visit to the Marzadro Distillery in Nogaredo, with its imposing copper stills and scenic aging rooms, or the Antica Erboristeria Cappelletti in Aldeno, on a visual and olfactory journey surrounded by the scent of plants and roots.
