The mountains – the advantage of a healthy diet

In Trentino, fruit and vegetables mean authenticity and quality

Our eating habits are often linked to our health. In fact, a proper, varied and balanced diet is one of the most important elements when it comes to ensuring your body’s well-being.

The main rules of good nutrition lie in selecting good quality food, combining it correctly and moderating the amount you eat. These tips also apply when on holiday.

If you spend a few days in the mountains of Trentino this will be all the easier for you: here our cuisine is not only delicious and high quality, but it is also prepared with authentic, healthy ingredients, such as the organic vegetables from the Valle di Gresta, or the apples and berries that are rich in vitamins.

Alongside this culinary heritage, we also have a wide selection of typical food and wine products that are still prepared according to traditional recipes. It is a chance to savour simple dishes.

Authenticity and quality are the main features of the fruit and vegetables grown in Trentino. These are fruit and vegetables that have been grown organically or with integrated farming methods and thus are rich in vitamins and antioxidants.

Without a doubt, apples are the product that best symbolises the fruit farming in Trentino: approximately 20% of the entire Italian production is grown here. In addition to quantity, quality also reigns supreme: it is no mere coincidence that the first apple variety to obtain DOP recognition was cultivated in the Val di Non. This is a type of fruit that is rich in water, mineral salts, calcium and zinc, which are crucial for cellular structures, and B complex and C vitamins, which aid iron absorption.

Vegetables that purify the body

The strawberries, wild strawberries, blueberries, currants, blackberries and raspberries grown in Trentino, mainly in the Val dei Mocheni, contain an elevated percentage of antioxidants. These are substances that are vital for the human body as they block the free radicals that are responsible for the degeneration of our blood vessel walls and plaque formation, which results in acute cardiovascular disease.

The Trentino is also renowned for its horticultural production, especially the Val di Gresta. In this area, nestled between Vallagarina and Lake Garda, around 20 varieties of vegetables are grown organically or using integrated farming methods. First and foremost, these include potatoes, carrots, celery roots, green cabbage and courgettes.
