- Snowshoe walks in the Paneveggio Nature Park
The San Martino di Castrozza – Passo Rolle ski area enjoys a truly unique position: located at the southern tip of the Dolomiti Superski carousel, it offers mild winter temperatures, countless sunny days, and breathtaking views of the Pale di San Martino skyline—the largest mountain group in the Dolomites, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The 60 km of ski slopes, ranging from 1,400 to 2,400 meters above sea level, wind through the Paneveggio Pale di San Martino Natural Park in a stunning alpine landscape nestled between the Dolomites and the Lagorai mountain range. The trails offer various levels of difficulty—from thrilling slopes with steep gradients and fast stretches such as Direttissima, Tognola Uno, and Paradiso, to easier blue runs and dedicated beginner areas, making it a perfect destination for both seasoned skiers and families with children.
A Modern and Sustainable Skiarea
In recent years, the ski area has undergone major upgrades and modernization, including:
- Colbricon Express gondola lift (10 seats)
- Cigolera six-seater chairlift
- Val Cigolera gondola lift (10 seats)
With state-of-the-art lift systems, enhanced snowmaking facilities, and two newly constructed snow reservoirs, the area is well-equipped to offer skiers comfort and a strong focus on environmental sustainability.
All facilities are powered by 100% renewable local energy, generated by 13 hydroelectric plants in the area.
Skiing at Passo Rolle: Guaranteed Snow and Iconic Dolomite Views
At an altitude of over 2,000 meters, Passo Rolle is the ideal choice for high-altitude skiing in the Dolomites. The season starts as early as late November, thanks to the area’s naturally snowy conditions.
With 15 km of slopes (including blue, red, and black runs), this alpine paradise beneath the Cimon della Pala—often called the “Matterhorn of the Dolomites”—is perfect for:
- Advanced skiers (e.g., the FIS-certified Paradiso run)
- Families with children (beginner slopes and a sledding area)
- Lovers of sun and scenic descents
Passo Rolle is conveniently connected to San Martino di Castrozza by a regular ski bus, while plans for a direct lift connection are already underway.
The Future Connection: San Martino – Passo Rolle
The upcoming project envisions a cableway infrastructure with five stations, covering a total length of 1,650 meters and a vertical drop of 500 meters. The 10-seat gondolas will travel the route in 17 minutes, at a speed of 6 meters per second and with wind resistance up to 75 km/h.
The system will be capable of transporting up to 1,500 people per hour. Like the rest of the ski area, the new facilities will be powered by zero-emission, locally produced green energy from the region's 13 hydroelectric plants.
