Distilleria Francesco
Francesco and Alessandro’s distillery is found in Santa Massenza, the homeland of grappa, where the earliest distilling licences were issued from the mid-1800s.
Santa Massenza, a little town with a big tradition of wine-making and distillation, is home to Francesco and Alessandro Poli’s Azienda Agricola and Distillery. The vineyards here have been organically farmed since 1998, while the tools and techniques of biodynamic agriculture have been used in recent years. An ancient vineyard in the Sottovi area, on the hills overlooking the lake, has been replanted with Nosiola, Trentino’s only indigenous white grape variety which is used to produce the “Nosiola Sottovi” and “Maiano” wines, as well as the Vino Santo Trentino “i Nosioi”. Francesco and Alessandro’s first official harvest of Nosiola grapes for Vino Santo dates back to 1985, but the first Vino Santo Trentino DOC under the Francesco Poli brand would not be tasted until 1990.
