Azienda Agricola Balter Winery
Outdoor areas, a terrace, a stable, a barn, a garden within crenellated walls -— ideal for even the youngest guests — and finally a mysterious stone tunnel leading to the cellar.
This building on a hilltop towering over Rovereto, dating from the 1500s, has been in the Balter family since 1872. The underground cellar was built in 1990 by Francesco and his son Nicola Balter. Annual production amounts to around 80,000 bottles, half of which are Trentodoc, though red wine is considered the company’s forte. In fact, its first wine was a Cabernet Sauvignon (1969-1970). Others include Barbanico (named in honour of Barbara and Nicola, Francesco Balter’s children) and Lagrein Merlot. Over the years, the company has gravitated towards the Metodo Classico, earning immense accolades and an excellent reputation in just a short time. Today, Balter is a byword for bubbles, which come in three versions: Brut, Rosé and Riserva.
