World Cup Opening Parade
Opening ceremony of Val di Fassa Audi FIS Ski World Cup in which local sports groups and associations parade through the streets of Moena to inaugurate the two days of races at San Pellegrino Pass
On Friday evening, 23 February, the Women's Ski World Cup officially kicks off in Val di Fassa. The two days of fast races on the "La VolatA" slope of San Pellegrino Pass are a great celebration for the whole valley, the crowning of a dream nurtured for over thirty years. It is thanks to a very well prepared technical staff, hundreds of volunteers who provide the Organising Committee with passion and a lot of experience tested in other important sports events (European Cup, Universiade, Junior World Championships) and as a federal training centre, that today Val di Fassa hosts two competitions of the highest international circuit.
The opening ceremony of the Val di Fassa Audi FIS Ski World Cup starts at 6 p.m. with a beautiful parade to celebrate the athletes who, between Saturday and Sunday, will compete on the black Col Margherita slope. Along a ring-shaped route, starting from the "Piaz de Ramon" square and arriving in the "Piaz de Sotegrava" square where there will be the presentation of the participating groups, will parade the instructors of the five ski schools of Moena, Vigo, Pozza, Campitello and Canazei who will light up the streets of the town centre with torches; the "Enrosadira" Choir, the male even-voice ensemble from Moena; the music band of Pozza "Musega de Poza"; the administrators of the Municipality of Moena; the "Scufons del Cogo", organisers of the famous March event dedicated to telemark and freeride; the ski clubs US Monti Pallidi, Fassactive and Ski Team Fassa; the athletes of Moena Sport Rhythmic Gymnastics; the "Schuhplattler de Ciampedel", one of the most original folk groups in the Dolomites with their performance based on jumps, moves and slaps. To make the atmosphere of the Fairy of the Dolomites even more evocative, from 4 p.m., there will be a horse-drawn carriage, a colourful hot-air balloon show, and a children's make-up corner with balloons and candyfloss by the "Bambi" association. The meeting point, if you get hungry, is at "Bait del Pencio", in the "Perle Alpine" square, with street food with real mountain flavours.
