Vigo: a singing village!
For the traditional summer music festival, the "Sass Maor" Choir performs a rich repertoire of popular mountain songs in the village square
Traditional mountain songs inspired by the grandiose Alpine landscapes, glaciers, forests and legends of the Dolomites. Every Thursday evening, we will be able to listen to pieces skilfully performed by local choral groups, who will entertain us in an exciting concert, sure to be appreciated by valley dwellers and tourists alike. On 27 Juni, at 9.15 p.m., the "Sass Maor" Choir will perform in the square in front of the tourist office in Vigo.
The "Sass Maor" men's choir of Tonadico was founded in 1974 on the initiative of some young people from the Primiero area. Under the direction of Don Giuseppe Seppi, who was succeeded in 1981 by Tullio Dalla Sega, the choir dedicated itself to the collection of autochthonous songs, taken from the living voices of the village elders, and to their harmonisation thanks to the collaboration with musicians who believed in this important project of social preservation and enhancement. In its career, the choir has toured Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and even toured southern Brazil in 1998. In September 2004, on the occasion of its thirtieth year of foundation, with the help of the alpine guides of Primiero-San Martino di Castrozza, it climbed the peak of Sass Maor, from which it takes its name, reaching a height of 2814 m on foot. As part of the 2006 international festival "I Suoni delle Dolomiti" (Sounds of the Dolomites) in Val Veneggia, they took part in the performance of the contemporary music work "Vijidaes" (Visions) by Maestro Giorgio Battistelli. It currently consists of 35 chorister and, since 2018, has been directed by Maestro Federico Orler. The repertoire on offer ranges from original pieces, traditional folk and mountain chants, Christmas and religious songs.
