Val di Fassa FIS Ski Cross World Cup
In this Olympic year, Val di Fassa once again brings the thrill of ski cross to life with two top-level international races - men's and women's - on the Monzoni slope at San Pellegrino Pass
Following the organisational success of last winter, the Ski Cross World Cup returns to Val di Fassa, in the San Pellegrino ski area, for two spectacular new stages of the international circuit. The event is organised by Val di Fassa Grandi Eventi in collaboration with lift company Funivie Catinaccio, with technical support from Monti Pallidi Sports Union of Moena and the involvement of local ski clubs Ski Team Fassa and FassActive. The competition will take place on the Park Monzoni slope, the official training ground of the FISI national teams, thanks to the "Piste Azzurre" project, which has been active since 2006.
Friday 30 and Saturday 31 January will host the sixth and seventh races of the season - the final test before the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina. Qualification rounds are scheduled for Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 January, with training sessions and knockout heats leading up to the finals. All races will be broadcast live on Eurosport, Rai Sport and ARD.
The 1,300-metre-long course, with a vertical drop of 180 metres, was designed by Dario Dellantonio (course director), Mattia Giongo (race director) and local technicians. Steep curves, jumps of up to 30 metres and a series of high-speed, technical sections create a challenging course where tight timings and thrilling action are guaranteed. According to the knockout format (KO system), four racers compete per heat, with the top two advancing to the next round. Speeds can exceed 100 km/h, demanding a perfect mix of precision, tactics and explosive power.
The home crowd is already gearing up to cheer on their local heroes. Among the most anticipated athletes: Jole Galli, reigning Italian champion, who claimed her first World Cup victory right here on the "Monzoni" slope; Simone Deromedis (Fiamme Gialle), runner-up in the overall standings last season; and Federico Tomasoni, current national title holder. Opening the races will be young local skiers Nathalie Bernard and Jannes Debertol (Ski Team Fassa), alongside Kristian Gabrielli (FassActive).
Spectators can easily reach the competition area via the "Costabella" four-seater chairlift, which departs directly from San Pellegrino Pass. Even non-skiers can enjoy the event: from the top station, a dedicated walking path leads 600 metres down the valley to the finish area, right along the edge of the course. A special lift ticket promotion is available for both Friday and Saturday.
