Vallagarina by bicycle between nature, wine cellars and castles in southern Trentino, a flat 90 km cycle path connecting the north and south of Trentino, in the footsteps of the ancient Via Claudia Augusta, the important trade route of the Roman Empire with Central Europe.
Pedalling along the Adige river, from Austria to the province of Verona, one is immersed in a unique landscape: vineyards and wine cellars whose appeal is hard to resist, picturesque and unmissable villages, ancient castles that bear witness to a story to be told, mountains dotted with alpine pastures for tasty excursions in the midst of nature. <p>The backdrop for a holiday to be savoured slowly in the open air amidst culture and food and wine.</p> <p>In Vallagarina, following the course of the Adige River, the cycle path skirts several towns ready to welcome you.</p> <p>Rovereto, the City of Peace, offers numerous internationally renowned museums of art, history and science, as well as a lively and rich historic centre.</p> <p>Next is Mori, a characteristic village protected by the sanctuary of Montalbano, which opens the way to the Val di Gresta, a biologic garden in Trentino, and Lake Garda, with a short diversions.</p> <p>Further south is Ala, the 'Velvet City' famous for the silk trade, with its enchanting Baroque centre.</p> <p>Opposite is Avio, a medieval village dominated by the imposing castle with its marvellous frescoes.</p> <p>Towards the north, on the other hand, the villages of Isera, Nogaredo, Villa Lagarina, Pomarolo, Volano, Nomi, Calliano and Besenello are worth a stop, where the small, well-kept historic centres offer refreshment and tranquillity. The centuries-old trees of the Guerrieri Gonzaga park, the picturesque Church of Santa Maria Assunta, the Taio biotope, populated by migratory birds, Castel Pietra and Castel Beseno, the scene of important battles, are just some of the beauties of this part of Vallagarina.</p> <p>From the bottom of the valley, ascending to the Brentonico Plateau we immerse ourselves in the Monte Baldo Natural Park, known as the 'Garden of Italy' for its varied flora, while to the east rises the Pasubio massif with the three municipalities of the Leno Valleys, Terragnolo, Trambileno and Vallarsa, memories of the Great War and guardians of authentic traditions.</p>
