Alba di Canazei - Val Contrin

The route is challenging in the initial and final sections, both due to the steepness and the surface. The route leads to Rifugio Contrin, at the foot of the south side of the Marmolada.

From the square of Alba, reach the valley station of the Ciampac lifts. Behind the parking lot, take the dirt road (trail marker no. 602) which, with wide and gentle hairpin bends, climbs through the woods. This section is immediately challenging with about 200 meters of altitude difference to face. Catch your breath once you reach the Baita Locia Contrin. From here the forest becomes sparse, the valley opens up and the route becomes flatter. Continue for about two kilometers on a slight climb, pedaling among high mountain pastures in a grandiose scenery of peaks surrounding the valley on every side. To the right the Colac, to the left the Vernel and the Marmolada, while to the east rises the monumental tower of Cima di Ombretta. Cross the Ruf de Contrin and reach Rifugio Mèlga Cianci. The last significant climb leads to Rifugio Contrin which dominates the valley from a small hill. You can also continue up to Malga Contrin. Return by the same route as the outward journey.
