Alba - Col dei Rossi - Viel dal Pan - Fedaia - Alba

The Viel dal Pan (Bindelweg in German) is one of the most beautiful panoramic trails connecting Passo Pordoi to Passo Fedaia. From Ladin "bread route", because in the past it was the preferred route of flour merchants from Belluno who reached the Val di Fassa.

Access to this well-known panoramic trail can be done in two different ways. From Canazei, take the bus to Passo Pordoi, the starting point of trail no. 601, which begins between the CAI Alpine House and the Hotel Savoia and first leads to a small church, then continues with a gentle slope towards the grassy saddle that divides Sas Becé from the ridge on which the homonymous hut is located. On the ascent, go around the hill to the left to then reach, with a short descent, Rifugio Fredarola (in this case add 40 min. to the total time). The second option foresees, instead, the ascent by lifts directly from Canazei or Alba to Col dei Rossi. From the cable car top station, the route is all downhill until Rifugio Belvedere, past which you continue to the right, taking a wide shortcut cut into the meadow. You rejoin the dirt road left a little before, continuing on the flat towards Rifugio Fredarola (20 min. to be added to the total time). This refuge can be considered the starting point of the hike. From there, the route (trail no. 601) takes a mostly flat trend or interrupted by steep but short uphill stretches only at the ridges dividing the different valleys. You reach Rifugio Viel dal Pan, continue for a long stretch with minimal elevation changes, enjoying the magnificent view of the Tofane and the Livinallongo valley, which opens at a clearly visible saddle, a few dozen meters from the trail. You reach a fork. Descend to the right towards the dam, first facing a long diagonal, then a steep and narrow switchback until you cross a last rather exposed steep stretch that must be walked with great caution. It exits onto the state road opposite Rifugio Marmolada "E. Castiglioni".
