SellaRonda Skimarathon
A unique race: night-time ski mountaineering in pairs along a spectacular route around the Sella, between Dolomite passes and villages in the four Ladin valleys. Canazei is one of the key stages
The SellaRonda Skimarathon is one of the most spectacular ski mountaineering competitions in the world. There are at least three reasons for this: it takes place at night, along the slopes of the Dolomiti Superski area; it combines skiing with the four passes surrounding the Sella massif; and it attracts 550 male, female and mixed teams in a single, incredible alpine marathon with dedicated rankings. By the light of their headlamps, the ski mountaineers create a trail of light that winds through the Dolomites, offering a unique spectacle for the public: an evocative sight to behold in the villages, on the uphill sections and at the key passages, such as in Canazei, where the race lights up the night and the cheering.
In keeping with the annual rotation, the 32nd edition will start and finish in Alta Badia: from Corvara, athletes will tackle the climbs of the Campolongo (1,875 m), Pordoi (2,239 m), Sella (2,174 m) and Gardena (2,298 m), covering a total distance of 42 km and 2,700 metres of elevation gain. Last year, victory in the men's category went to Davide Magnini and Federico Nicolini (2h45'00'' from Trentino, while Giulia Compagnoni and Noemi Junod (3h25'03'') won the women's race. In the mixed category, Debora Agreiter and Stefan Fuchs triumphed, finishing 41st overall (3h29'48'').
Registration opens in January. The race will be streamed live on www.sellaronda.it and, in the following days, a summary will be broadcast on Rai Sport HD.
