1914-1918 La Gran Vera - The Great War: Galicia, Dolomites

Voices from the trenches: the Great War revives in Moena.

Since 2014, in Moena, the thematic exhibition on the Great War opens a moving window on one of the most painful chapters of our past. The precious Federspiel-Caimi collection, enriched by finds from the Museo Ladin de Fascia and local enthusiasts, takes us on a journey through memories that tell the Austro-Russian front, the war between the Dolomites and the devastating impact of that conflict on the lives of men and women.

Promoted by the Ladin Cultural Institute, the association "Sul fronte dei ricordi" and the Municipality of Moena, this exhibition offers over 500 m² of exhibition space divided into four sections, each of which touches deep ropes: Galicia 1914, La trincea, Dolomiti 1915 and Guerra alla Guerra. Here, realistic dioramas, vintage windows and photographs, gigantic photographs and original audio and video documents revive the anguish, courage and tenacity of men in uniform - Italians, Austrians, Russians, Hungarians, Bosnians and Germans - deployed on distant fronts, but united by the same destiny.

Each corner of the exhibition is a bridge between past and present, a testimony that invites us to feel what the soldiers lived in the trenches, on the Dolomite peaks and in the fields of unknown Galicia. Periodically, a new temporary section enriches the route, making it always alive and vibrant. The exhibition is accessible to everyone and recommended from the age of 8: an experience to immerse yourself, reflect and remember.
