Baraccone Express
For the Val di Fassa Panorama Music festival, in Fuciade, the quartet performs a repertoire of original pieces inspired by Balkan, klezmer and Romany music
Active since 2012, the Baraccone Express combines the sounds of the four main instruments of wandering music: the cymbalon, a melodic stringed instrument typical of Gypsy and Roma culture; the trumpet, the voice of the Balkans; the clarinet, the soul of klezmer; and the double bass, which unites all these sounds. The band consists of Paolo Xeres from Morbegno, Luca Radaelli from Colico, Edoardo Tomaselli from Milan, and Stefano Malugani from Crandola Valsassina on double bass. Their wide-ranging repertoire includes original songs, soundtracks of various cult movies (from Nino Rota to Spaghetti Westerns), forays into gypsy music and Old Time Jazz paths. They have performed at festivals, street arts festivals, pubs and major events including JazzMi, Tolfarte International Festival, Ascona Street Artists Festival, Musica in Quota, Le Cantine de l'Arena, Umbria Jazz, Etnotracce, Rassegna Snodi, Festival Bascherdeis... In 2020, they completed the suite "Raìs\Radici", composed of four original pieces commissioned by the interdisciplinary project "The roots of an identity", which involved mountain communities in Valtellina. Currently, the group is working on their third album, composed entirely of original music.
The concert is free of charge. In case of bad weather, the concert will take place inside the refuge.
Val di Fassa Panorama Music is organised by the cultural association "La Grenz", under the artistic direction of Enrico Tommasini, in collaboration with the valley's cableway companies and with the support of the Val di Fassa Tourist Board.
