From taking a dive into its waters to cycling in the surrounding area
Lake Caldonazzo is located in Valsugana, the first destination in Italy to be awarded sustainable tourism certification. The lake is easy to reach by car, but the area is also well served by public transport from Trento. We recommend coming to the lake by train and admiring it from the window as the train runs alongside.
The lake boasts 4 Blue Flags for its well-kept beaches and facilities. Together with Lake Levico just a short distance away, Lake Caldonazzo is considered one of southern Europe’s warmest lakes: an excellent reason to go for a healthy swim or indulge in water sports such as sailing, SUP and canoeing.
There’s also a great deal more to do around Lake Caldonazzo, such as hiking or cycling, visiting castles and villages and relaxing in spas.

Go for a walk in the centre of Caldonazzo
Wander among the narrow streets and traditional houses in the centre of Caldonazzo, dominated by the magnificent crenellated Corte Trapp. In summer, Caldonazzo hosts the Trentino Book Festival, an international festival of literature.
Enjoy Lake Caldonazzo
A great destination for water sports lovers, you can swim from April till September in Lake Caldonazzo with its 4 Blue Flag beaches. Stop at one of the small restaurants overlooking the lake for a lunch or dinner based on fish from the lake!
Water-skiing on the lake
Lake Caldonazzo is the only place in Trentino where you can water-ski. Its beaches also offer sailing, canoeing, windsurfing and SUP. Try all of them, or at least one!
Take a dive into Lake Levico
Lake Levico is a mere stone’s throw from Lake Caldonazzo, separated by just a hill. Surrounded by lush vegetation, it opens out onto a beautiful Blue Flag beach of grass and pebbles. We recommend hiring a pedalo and taking a trip around the lake accompanied by a dive.
Follow the Valsugana cycle path
If you feel like pedalling, the “La Via del Brenta” cycle path connects Lake Caldonazzo with Bassano del Grappa and on to Venice. Eighty kilometres of nature, culture and history, to explore on two wheels, even if only in part.
Take a hike to the Colle di Tenna
A moderately easy walk up to Colle di Tenna with views of Lake Caldonazzo and Lake Levico. Along the way, you pass points of cultural interest, such as the Austro-Hungarian fort and Church of San Valentino.
Visit Pergine castle
The ancient fortification of Castel Pergine dominates the entire valley. There is also an elegant hotel, a fine restaurant and many cultural events in its gardens.
Relax at the Levico spa
Banish stress, recharge energy and learn breathing techniques. The Levico spa combines the relaxing properties of bathing in thermal water with yoga by the lake and meditative walks in the centuries-old park.
Climb up the Menador
Fourteen kilometres, some stretches carved into the rock, others in the cool of the forest and alpine pastures. From above, the view sweeps over Lake Caldonazzo. Part of the Giro d'Italia route in spring 2022, the climb is relatively easy and delightful.
Visit the Calceranica Mining Park
The park tells the story of the mine and the life of the miners, starting with the Leyla Tunnel, used by the miners to enter into the bowels of the mountain and reach the network of actual mining tunnels.
