This summer in Val di Non

Castles, gorges and mines

Val di Non is a valley by name, but its conformation comes closer to that of a plateau. It is gentle and welcoming with plenty of outdoor experiences for everyone, even those wanting to go it alone.

There are flat and mid-altitude trails, with views of apple orchards, plenty of castles, the peaks of the Brenta Dolomites and the Maddalene Mountains. This soothing landscape surprisingly opens up to an underground world, where experience becomes adventure and discovery of the valley's history and past.

The people of Noni dug pipes by hand into the walls of the gorges and canyons to irrigate their crops in the village with the water running down the mountain into the bottom of the canyons. Whereas, the mines of Rumo tell us about the history of excavation and hard work by the miners in the 13th century.

These are some of the experiences allowing you to explore Val di Non in summer, also in the company of expert guides!

#1

Visit Castle Thun

The castle overlooks the apple orchards from the hill on which it stands. Dating back to the mid-13th century, it is a destination adored by history buffs, thanks also to the excellent state in which its interior is preserved. The feather on the cap is undoubtedly the sumptuous Bishop’s Room, covered in Cimbrian pine.

#2

Discover Rio Novella by kayak

Starting from Lake Santa Giustina you can dive into a spectacular adventure, discovering the canyon formed by the flow of Rio Novella. In addition to visiting the two canyons, you can continue your excursion through the gorges of the stream, always in maximum safety thanks to the walkways fixed to the rock.

#3

Cycling between apple orchards and castles

How about a bike ride? We recommend an easy excursion, mostly along paved cycle paths and secondary country roads where there is almost no traffic, to admire castles, ancient palaces and beautiful natural views, such as the one on Lake Santa Giustina.

#4

Trekking on the Lezi trails

The Lezi trails tell the story of the relationship between man and water. On this trail that runs through two of the nine secure ditches, you pass by the Church of San Udalrico and the playground near the lakes of Coredo and Tavon. Set off to discover these ancient ditches from 200 years ago!

#5

Visit Castel Valer

Located in a panoramic area surrounded by apple trees, the castle of the Spaur family offers its visitors perfectly preserved rooms and furniture. Castel Valer was inhabited for nine centuries by the Spaur counts, who occupied a prominent position in Central Europe. Are you ready to see the Baschenis frescoes?

#6

Visiting the mines of Rumo

Val di Non hides a silver mine in its subsoil. Access is from the forest, near the village of Rumo, leading to paths trodden by miners in the 13th century. You can only follow this path in the company of a guide, but it is safe and feasible even for children.

#7

Visit the Sanctuary of San Romedio

131 steps connect the five overlapping churches that make up the Sanctuary of San Romedio. The beauty of this building also lies in its position, atop a cliff. Yes, there is a bit of a way to go, but it is worth it to admire the most loved and well-known sanctuary in Trentino. Our advice? Reach the sanctuary along the path in the rock that starts from Sanzeno.

#8

Relaxing at Aqualido di Ronzone

Olympic swimming pool and play pool. In Val di Non you can relax in the Aqualido di Ronzone whirlpool while the children have fun going down the slide. And to round it off, you can enjoy a cocktail on the outdoor panoramic terrace overlooking the Brenta Dolomites.
