The bohemian soul of Rovereto
An autumn of artists, museums and glasses of Marzemino
A treasure chest of art and culture, where you can breathe in an elegant and somewhat bohemian atmosphere. Yes, because Rovereto is famous for its museums and cultural events, but also for the Vallagarina vineyards home of the “eccellente Marzemino”, to quote Mozart’s Don Giovanni.
Between an exhibition and a glass of wine, you may happen, while strolling through the historic centre, to find yourself in front of a hat shop that seems to belong to another era, “defended” by two stone caryatids made by one of the most important exponents of Futurism, Fortunato Depero. The artist lived in Rovereto all his life, inspired by the beauty of the Venetian palazzi and the surrounding hills, where he went in search of ideas.

Art at the table
In addition to inspiration, walking in the hills around Rovereto you will find rows and rows of vines and many wine cellars. Many offer wine-tasting experiences, since you are precisely in the land of Marzemino, an intensely coloured red wine, with a scent of violets and spices, very versatile and never too alcoholic. If, on the other hand, you want to try your hand at grappas and distillates, try the “I cinque sensi (Five Senses)” tasting at the Marzadro distilleries in Nogaredo.
If you want to try a very special tasting, discover the events of Sorsi di cultura, the event that takes you to taste local wines in museums, theaters and, from this fall, also in castles.
Before leaving the hill, stop for a meal at one of the country farms with a view of the Vallagarina. Otherwise, you can return to the historic centre where you will find several typical restaurants and taverns, such as Osteria del Pettirosso, Ristorante Doge or the Raminel Restaurant and the Alfio Ghezzi Bistrot, where Alfio Ghezzi's starred cuisine marries the art and elegance of the Mart.
Wine-tastings experiences
TASTEA treasure chest of culture
An intimate city capable of offering a rich and varied cultural offer, in line with its elegant and bohemian soul. Starting with the Mart, the great museum of contemporary art which, in addition to offering exhibitions of international standing, organises many events open to the public, from guided tours to tastings, from artistic performances to DJ sets and concerts under Botta’s famous cupola.
Then, in September, Rovereto becomes a point of reference for lovers of contemporary dance with the Festival Oriente Occidente (East West Festival), which brings leading names in Italian and international dance to the city.
Also in September, Rovereto hosts Settenovecento, a music festival with chamber concerts in unusual locations around the city, symphony concerts and late night concerts. Not to mention the Wired Next Fest, the largest free-to-attend event in Italy dedicated to innovation and the impact of digital technologies.
The best way, however, to discover the most significant cultural sites is to participate in one of the many urban treks offered in the autumn. Each of them starts from a specific theme to tell one of the many stories of Rovereto: from the tragic pages of the First World War, to the discovery of historic buildings, culminating in a walk that, following a silk thread, tells the story of the city in the eighteenth century.
