Campiglio ever so green

Mountain meets man

Making sure that ‘mountain and man meet’, within the frames of coexistence and mutual protection, is the challenge Madonna di Campiglio is facing today. Land of wonder and hospitality, of panoramas that challenge the secret of verticality, of valleys that make you want to protect them to be enjoyed in the future devoid of any trace, Campiglio, pearl of the Brenta Dolomites, has no more time to waste, and welcomes the call to arms of an increasingly green transition.

It does so in terms of mobility, through shared monitoring and car-free days, so that presence and experience replace chaotic traffic and the rhetoric of belonging, driven by a steadfast commitment to solving the issue of waste. It does so through awareness campaigns, in synergy with tourism and mountain professionals, along with science and culture experts. From plastic-free mountain huts to small gestures that aim to encourage individual responsibility, such as the creation of sites for the disposal of cigarettes and the reduction of printed material.

It is just the start for a journey that points to a great change. It is in small yet concrete steps that look far ahead that we build the present we want. Let us begin to walk, therefore, through a land that has given us so much and that today asks us to start again in a different, truer and more respectful way. And it is asking us to do it together.

Let’s green

The no is to plastic mountains: we want our Alps to be made of trees and rocks, rivers and flowers. In partnership with the Adamello Brenta Park, eleven local huts have joined the project to phase out disposable plastic: Malga Montagnoli, Cascina Zeledria and Rifugio Mandron ‘Città di Trento’ are already 100% plastic-free and following their example, now just a few steps away from the destination, are Rifugio Nambino, Rifugio Doss del Sabion, Ristorante Prà Rodont, Malga Cioca, Rifugio Patascoss, Malga Ritorto, Rifugio Casinei and Chalet Spinale.

The Adamello Brenta Natural Park is committed to involving residents and visitors in environmental-themed excursions and campaigns. From waste reduction and recycling and a conscious use of the mountains to the use of water, the idea is that the commitment must be multilevel: by everyone and for everyone.

Slow Mobility Day

Mobility, how can we do it? For starters, we need to reduce the number of cars. An effective, integrated, efficient and convenient public transport is already there; what we have to focus on now is how to relieve valleys and mountains from traffic and smog. Campiglio kicks off with an experiment to be conducted every Tuesday: in July and August, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, cars cannot circulate on the very busy Vallesinella road. Space - and breathing - for those who walk and those who pedal. And once the results are there for everybody to see, no one will want to go back, and, who knows, perhaps soon all seven days will be at human pace.

Mountain Progress Lab

Mountain Progress Lab is an experimental project that leverages innovative technologies, data and storytelling to surgically protect the region. The goal is to collect and analyse environmental data in order to make concrete decisions and promote awareness actions that can involve communities and temporary residents.

The project, in collaboration with the University of Trento, uses electric cars which act as “environmental sentinels”, and move along Eco-routes, with the aim of collecting data that can progressively reduce CO2 emissions. In short, the Mountain Progress Lab is an open-air laboratory for the region’s sustainable future.
