Marcialonga Cycling
The Marcialonga Cycling Craft is the road granfondo held annually between late May and mid-June, through the Avisio valleys, with start and finish in Predazzo, in Val di Fiemme. The route immediately heads towards Val di Fassa.
Starting from Moena, you cross the village of Soraga and continue north. At San Giovanni, turn left. You leave behind the village of Vigo and its characteristic hamlets (Larcioné, Valongia, Tamion) to face the climb of the Costalunga Pass (9 km, average gradient 4.4%, maximum gradient 10%, elevation gain 450 m). You ride alongside the famous Lake Carezza to continue downhill to the Ponte Nova junction, passing through Nova Levante and San Valentino in Campo. From the Bolzano side, you tackle the legendary climb of the Pampeago Pass (S.S. 620), often stage and setting of the Giro d'Italia and a popular destination for great cyclists (13.9 km, elevation gain 1,099 m, average gradient 7.6%, maximum gradient 14.5%). The fast and technical descent allows you to reach Tesero (S.P. 215), from where you return to Predazzo. Then you start again towards Moena to immediately begin the climb along state road no. 346 (S.S. 346) of Passo San Pellegrino, reached in about 13 km, overcoming 790 m of elevation gain with an average gradient of 6.2% and sections up to 14%. You crest towards Falcade. At the Passo Valles junction (S.P. 81) you gain altitude again with steep and constant gradients, allowing a breather only in the final part (7 km, average gradient 8.6%, maximum gradient 16.1%, elevation gain 609 m). The last 23 km, with 1,000 m of elevation loss, down to Predazzo, are all downhill.
