Maratona dles Dolomites
It is the granfondo that gathers 9,000 cyclists, professionals and amateurs alike, from more than 70 nations, on the roads of the Dolomite passes on the first Sunday of August – roads that are closed to vehicle traffic for the event.
From the centre of Val di Fassa, take state road no. 48 (S.S. 48). There are 23 hairpin bends to face until Passo Sella, which can be reached in 12 km and 800 m of elevation gain (average gradient 6.9% with stretches up to 13%). The route goes over Plan de Gralba, then climbs Passo Gardena (average gradient 4.5% with maximum peaks of up to 10%) and descends to Corvara. From the Val Badia locality, the ascent of Passo Campolongo (average gradient 6.1% with stretches up to 11%) resumes. You descend to Arabba. After some rest in the Fodom valley, you face Passo Falzarego (S.R. 48), which, with never too steep gradients and long straights, leads to the foot of Lagazuoi, where the last tough kilometre of provincial road no. 24 (S.P. 24) climbs to Passo Valparola (average gradient 6.7%, maximum 15%). Following provincial road no. 37 (S.P. 37) you reach La Villa. You return towards Corvara on state road no. 244 (S.S. 244). You climb Passo Campolongo again. Then descend to Arabba, where you turn right and on state road no. 48 (S.S. 48) climb Passo Pordoi. Return to Canazei (13 km, average gradient 6.7% with sections up to 10% and 27 hairpin bends).
