Malga Contrin
Surrounded by Marmolada, Col Ombretta and Gran Vernel, Malga Contrin is one of those rare places where time seems to stand still.
Accessible only on foot from Alba di Canazei, the hut has been run by the Haselrieder family since 1990. Do you remember Heidi’s grandfather? You’ll be amazed by the resemblance! It’s one of the few traditional alpine huts that have preserved the true spirit of the mountains - in both its warm hospitality and its genuinely local cuisine. As you hike up, cows graze peacefully along the trail. At the top, you're rewarded with warm ricotta straight from the pot, fresh cheese with wild thyme, creamy yogurt drizzled with stone pine syrup, and homemade cakes baked from Grandma Hilde’s old recipes. And don’t miss the apple fritters or pancakes with ricotta and fir honey - simply unforgettable! If you prefer something savory, you’ll find hearty platters, soups, knödel, and polenta with melted cheese made right here.
