SKIING IN SPRING, DOUBLE THE EXCITEMENT

At a time of the year when days get longer and the air gets warmer, skiing becomes a unique pleasure, not to be missed. Spending the final weeks of the white season in Trentino, on days kissed by a sun that makes the snowy landscape even more beautiful, provides the opportunity for a reinvigorating experience that can be prolonged until sunset, on the slopes and in meeting places at high altitude.

The pleasure of spring skiing can be appreciated descent after descent, right from the morning, indulging every now and then in one or more stops at the many welcoming huts along the slopes, to have a taste, why not, of typical local dishes. The most privileged places where to best savour these pleasures are the “sun terraces”, from where you can admire the splendour of the Dolomites, in many cases accessible even to non-skiers looking for exclusive gourmand experiences high up in the mountains or for a panoramic solarium where to get a tan.

Quite trendy are the terraces of Rifugio Boch and Chalet Fiat in Madonna di Campiglio, the Pearl of the Dolomites, but also the mountain huts on the Paganella - especially La Roda and Dosson - with the Brenta group and Lake Garda in the background have a charm of their own. In eastern Trentino, one of the most stunning terraces can be found at Rifugio Tognola, at 2200 metres altitude, facing the Pale di San Martino and featuring a large relaxation area and solarium. In Val di Fassa, on the top of Sass Pordoi, Rifugio Maria offers beautiful views on the  Marmolada; and let’s not forget Chalet Cima Uomo at Passo San Pellegrino, which recently received the visit of the American alpine skiing champion Lindsey Vonn. In nearby Val di Fiemme, Rifugio Paion on the Cermis, overlooking the Latemar and Lagorai peaks, provides a stop not to be missed, while in the Ski Center Latemar Baita Gardonè is an absolute must.

If you want to stay on Alpe Cimbra, do not miss out on Rifugio Stella d'Italia. Moving to Passo Tonale, Rifugio Paradiso and the renovated Malga Valbiolo, with views on the Presena glacier, can provide unforgettable emotions. Trento’s home mountain, Monte Bondone, also offers a stunning panoramic point, Rifugio Palòn, from which the eye can scan a 360° horizon of mountain peaks.

In Trentino you can experience spring skiing from March to Easter also thanks to the offers of the two main carousels, «Skirama Dolomiti» and «Dolomiti Superski».

Skirama Dolomiti proposes its «Easter Special» from 19 March to 3 April, including in the hotel’s or apartment’s price the “Superskirama Dolomiti” skipass for 6 or 7 days. Accommodation facilities participating in the initiative are found in all of the carousel ski areas, from Madonna di Campiglio and Pinzolo to Folgarida-Marilleva, Pejo and Passo Tonale, Altopiano della Paganella and Monte Bondone, up to Alpe Cimbra.

Dolomiti Superski, on the other hand, offers «Dolomiti Super Sun 2016» to ski in Val di Fiemme, Val di Fassa and San Martino di Castrozza, from 19 March to the end of the season, with a seven-day holiday for the price of six.
