"Monc de Pèsc" - Mountains of Peace
The memory of the Great War to promote peace: in the squares of Moena you can witness an extraordinary reconstruction of daily military life, with the participation of historical re-enactors intent on carrying out the actions of the time
Over one hundred and twenty thousand visitors, thousands of original exhibits in five sections with various period environmental reconstructions, and dozens of reports in the Italian and international media. Ten years after its debut, "1914- 1918 - La Gran Vera - The Great War: Galicia-Dolomites", a successful temporary exhibition that has become permanent, is at the centre of "Monc de Pèsc - Mountains of Peace", on 22 and 23 June in Moena. Two days that the Ladin Cultural Institute "Majon di Fascegn" with the Association "Sul fronte dei ricordi" and the Municipality of Moena have conceived, when the war shakes the heart of Europe and Palestine, to support peace with conviction, making constructive memory of the terrible conflict lived, 110 years ago, also in Val di Fassa.
During the two days in Moena at the end of June, in the town squares and in the locality of "Fango" (on the road leading to San Pellegrino Pass), an extraordinary reconstruction of daily military life, on the front line and in the rear, will be proposed with about sixty historical re-enactors in the uniforms of almost all the Italian, German, Austrian and Bosnian corps involved along the lines between Marmolada and San Pellegrino Pass. The displays in the squares "Piaz de Ramon" and "Piaz de Sotegrava" will be animated between manoeuvres, preparation of coffee and military rancio (with the possibility of tasting for visitors), but also haircuts with the military barber and even a field photographer. Large-format period photos are placed at various points in the village to recreate the atmosphere experienced in the valley during wartime.
