Ciaccona, passacaglie and follie
Concert of Baroque music for violin, cello and harpsichord by the Trentino ensemble "Nucleo-Labirinti Armonici"
"Ciaccona", "passacaglia" and "follia" are three dance forms that have ancient origins in the Iberian Peninsula. The use of a repeated melodic motif in the bass register as the basis for a contrapuntal elaboration of the upper voices is one of the oldest known forms of instrumental and vocal music in Europe. The popular themes of ostinato basses became a fertile ground for 17th century musicians to experiment with the new language, a basis on which to build arias, songs, passacaglias. Some of these motifs became so popular that they remained at the heart of the European instrumental repertoire. The programme presented this evening offers numerous examples of this musical practice, in which the insistence of the ostinato gives way to free virtuoso elaborations and permanent personal creativity.
Music by: Vitali, Scarlatti, Schmelzer, Matteis, Pandolfi Mealli, Uccellini... On violin, Andrea Ferroni, on cello, Ivo Brigadoi, and on harpsichord, Ai Yoshida.
"Nucleo" is the most essential formation of the Trentino music ensemble "Labirinti Armonici", whose aim is to make 'good music', from the baroque to contemporary, known and disseminated to the public.
At 9 p.m. in the little church of Penìa, in the centre of the village.
