Thought the ages, art has provided solace in challenging times. At a time when so many of us are looking for a feel-good moment, or a brief respite from the onslaught of the daily news cycle, Boccanera Gallery decided to present a new online exhibition dedicated to the imagination entitled Boccanera Fiction. At one point, coronavirus disappeared from our thoughts for at least a second. Maybe we were fed up with the cold number of contagions, graphs, peaks, and the end of hymns on balconies.
We are living a reality that has overtaken fantasy. We want to go back to investigating art, to face the current situation through all the possible paradigm of interpretation. It is our quarantine that persuades us to overturn the gallery's program and to revive the many interpretations of the beautiful and even frightening adventures that our eleven artists narrate in their poetics and in their videos. The choice may seem the most appropriate given the times. After all, working from home, what could be better, in the time of the invisible enemy, to take the privilege of thinking about something else with your resources? By creating emotions in each of us.
From the worlds of the unconscious, the ghosts of the past and the fantasy of Nebojša Despotović, to the large brushstrokes of Andrea Fontanari presenting childhood memories as happy photographs of a safe harbour. Moving on to the eroticism of Dido Fontana's shots, and then to Daniel González's explosion of liveliness in his South American world, where art is a collective thought. The many perspectives condensed into a single painting by Linda Carrara build an imaginative and suspended reality that leads the viewer elsewhere. And Tamara Janes, through her research inspired by Hito Steyer's "In defence of the Poor Image", recovers the photographic waste of the Internet, creating new assemblages, even impossible ones. Jared C. Deery's flowers become human as in the garden of wonders. Richard Loskot recreates nature with technology. Cristian Avram, with his melancholy voice, recalls a distant time, at the gates of the Last Judgement. Federico Seppi intervenes directly in nature and on nature. Veronica de Giovanelli unexpectedly makes explode the landscape in its most visceral and profound dimension.
Boccanera - with this exhibition about imagination - wants to tell the world that we are not giving up. Art is life, art is passion. It can be found even in the darkest moments, if only you remember to open your eyes to the happiness of life and of what you see. We invite you to surprise yourself.
Boccanera Fiction is a virtual exhibition, with a closed-door gallery, will be accessible through all the gallery's online channels: via website, newsletter, and through the gallery's social networks, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp. From Wednesday to Saturday, we will post one artwork through the gallery's social networks. The exhibition wants to bring us closer when we have to remain distant, and at the same time, leads us to contemplation, giving us time to analyse and observe one work at a time.
