At dawn in a mountain dairy - Jumela Dairy
Spend the night in the mountain Rifugio and, at dawn, experience life in Val Jumela like a real alpine dairyman. The reward? The most genuine breakfast of your life!
In the summer 2024, the #albeinmalga returns: an opportunity to get to know a centuries-old mountain garrison, immersing yourself in the reality of the mountain pastures and experiencing the rhythms and work of the herdsman. Before setting to work, you will witness, enveloped in the silence of the high altitude, the always exciting spectacle of the "Enrosadira", when, as the sun breaks through the horizon, the peaks turn the most intense shades of orange to violet. Time to get busy! Milking the cows, tidying up the cowshed, tending to the animals, collecting fresh eggs and preparing a breakfast of local produce for all to enjoy together.

Programme - Friday 30 August:
- 4.30 p.m. - everyone in the gondola to start! Meeting point at the Pozza lifts to go up to Buffaure
- 4.50 p.m. - arrived at the top (2040 m), we admire the spectacular panorama and then backpack on our shoulders and off we go along the easy path to the Baita Cuz Refuge. On the way, led by our mountain guide, we get to know the names of the peaks and, if we are lucky, we may even spot some wild animals in these parts
- 5.30 p.m. - we arrive at Baita Cuz. Shoes and rucksacks off, let's go and take our places for the night; we'll all sleep together! Those who wish can climb up to "Col de Valvacin" to admire the spectacular 360° panorama of the Fassa Dolomites
- 7.30 p.m. - let's eat! Who knows how hungry we will be after this beautiful walk... Stefano and Lucia will know how to satisfy the appetites of young and old with typical dishes
- 9 p.m. - everyone under the duvet. Tomorrow the day starts early!
Programme - Saturday 31 August:
- 5.30 a.m. - wake up! It'll be a bit tiring at first, but when will we ever see the sun rise again from up here? There will be time for sleep this evening...
- 6 a.m.- on the terrace of the Baita Cuz Refuge, we enjoy the sunrise that illuminates the sun-kissed Dolomite peaks. Then we set off to reach Malga Jumela... and meet Lucia
- 6.30 a.m. - divided into small groups, we will experience first-hand the activities of the dairy, from milking the cows, to combing the cattle, collecting the eggs, and accompanying the cows to the pastures
- 8 a.m. - after this hard work, we’ll enjoy a well-deserved break with a tasty breakfast made of milk, fruit and elder juice, jam, home-made traditional cakes and sweets, fritters, eggs, butter, cheese, speck and many other kinds of cured meats and fresh bread (the kind we will have made together), and so on and so forth!
- 10/10.30 a.m. - we pick up our rucksacks and set off again with the mountain guide for the return hike, with the possibility, before returning to the valley, of reaching the "Sas de Pere da fech" viewpoint (2142 m)
- late morning - that's the end of the experience... now you can also take a nap!
Price: 130 € for adults (max. 19 places); 105 € for children from 6 to 12 years.
Price includes: lift ticket, overnight stay and light breakfast at the Baita Cuz Refuge, activities and hearty breakfast at the Malga Jumela, two hikes with a mountain guide. The packed lunch on Saturday is not included in the price, but can be purchased directly at the dairy in the morning. Overnight accommodation in the hut is in multi-bed rooms or dormitories, bathrooms may be shared.

The experience can be booked online or in the tourist offices of the valley by 4 p.m. the previous day.
Notes: participation is recommended for children from 6 years, well-trained; suitable clothing and hiking shoes. Activity limited to a minimum of 10 participants. In case of bad weather conditions, the experience is cancelled the day before with notification to participants.
