The Gunta Abele – Giovanni Fornasini Duo brings together two internationally trained musicians, united by a deep passion for chamber music and refined interpretative sensitivity.
Gunta Abele, a Latvian cellist, began her musical studies at age five at the E. Darzins Special Music School. She later studied at the Basel Music Academy, earning her soloist diploma under Ivan Monighetti and Sol Gabetta. Abele has performed at renowned international festivals such as the Rostropovich International Cello Festival, Schleswig-Holstein, Menuhin Gstaad, Viva Cello, and Santander Academy. She has collaborated with leading artists including Gidon Kremer, Sofia Gubaidulina, and Pēteris Vasks, and played with orchestras like the Zurich Opernhaus and Kremerata Baltica.
Giovanni Fornasini, an Italian pianist from Padua (b. 1980), graduated with honors in 2000. He later studied harpsichord and pursued advanced piano training at the Basel Academy with Filippo Gamba, earning a Konzert-Diplom in 2009 and a Master in Piano Pedagogy in 2011. He refined his skills with masters like Aldo Ciccolini, Howard Shelley, and Benedetto Lupo. Fornasini has performed across Italy and Switzerland in both solo and chamber music settings and has taught piano at the Regionale Musikschule Burgdorf since 2012.
