Water and rural life stories

Water is the source of life, precious for grazing and the mountains, engine of mills and ancient sawmills, but also for well-being and its healing power. Follow its story on this journey.

Already in the Middle Ages, the only sulfur spring in Trentino, the water of Aloch, was known. This is where your walk begins. Here there was a real thermal establishment, owned by the prince-bishop of Bressanone for the treatment of skin diseases. It had 22 wooden bathing tubs, rooms for overnight stays, and two boilers for heating water. A flood of the Avisio swallowed it in 1641. It took 3 centuries to find it again. The new baths were again swallowed, this time by a fire. Only in 2005 were the current Terme Dolomia born, and ten years later, the QC Terme Dolomiti. The second water story you encounter, continuing your walk towards the Catinaccio, is that of the water that allows the land to flourish with pasture and fruits, like those you can taste at Malga Aloch and Masc Aloch, the water that fills the streams that move the wheels of the Venetian sawmill of the Ladin Museum at the end of your journey. Stories of the mountain, past and future inextricably intertwined.
