Walking in Peace - Nobel Peace Prize Trail
An easy ring-route connecting the Castel Dante military shrine with the Campana dei Caduti, following the totem poles of the Nobel Peace Prize winners

In the immediate vicinity of Rovereto there is a fascinating itinerary of considerable historical and cultural value, a path that leads to the ‘places of memory’, tangible evidence of the tragic events that have profoundly marked the history of our country. The itinerary starts at the Ossuary of Castel Dante, follows the Colle di Miravalle and reaches the imposing Campana dei Caduti, known as Maria Dolens. Every evening, its tolling echoes the memory of the Fallen of all wars and nations of the world, inviting men to find the way to Peace. This touch of harmony and hope embodies the desire to build a better future, free from the tragedies of war. The descent from the western slope, along the road leading back to the Ossuary, completes this evocative route.

Characterised by a level of difficulty accessible to all, this itinerary is particularly suitable for families eager to spend a day in the open air, offering young people the chance to approach a fragment of history whose memory should be an integral part of the cultural heritage of every Italian, but which risks disappearing into oblivion.

The memory of the tragic events of the Great War, which found expression in the Ossuary of Castel Dante, is now transformed into an evocative path of peace called ‘Walking in Peace’. Along this walk, one encounters totem poles dedicated to illustrious historical figures such as Gandhi, Mandela, Martin Luther King, and others, figures who dedicated their lives to the practice and teaching of peace.
