Val Siniciaga - The Way of the Valleys

Challenging, suggestive and panoramic trekking, little traveled but well marked, winding through forests of larches and firs, then climbing in altitude, immersing in lush nature dotted with traces of the Great War.

The excursion in Val Siniciaga starts from Val Genova and follows a section of the Peace Trail, crossing the sites of the Great War. It is a challenging and very rewarding trek that also offers historical enrichment, all immersed in unspoiled nature and surrounded by breathtaking panoramas. The route climbing up the valley during the conflict hosted an important military cable car.
Near Malga Seniciaga Bassa (1,520 m) the remains of an Austrian cemetery can still be seen, recently restored. The path continues to Malga Seniciaga Alta (1,942 m) and Baita Altar (2163 m), where the remains of the military cable car station are visible, leading up to Passo Altar (2,385 m) which opens to the side of the Niscli Glacier, at the foot of Carè Alto.
Our trail ends at Passo Altar but the path, if you want to continue, leads along an old military road to rifugio Carè Alto (2,459 m) near which military remains and a wooden chapel built by Russian prisoners employed during the war in this sector can be seen.
