Val Masun - The Way of the Valleys
A journey through the Great War on trails traced by women who, carrying loads, climbed the slopes to serve the Austrian military forces.
Val Masun is a dive into history retracing one of the many routes taken by young women during the Great War. One route led to the Malga Ringia and Pura and then climbed a steep path that reached Bocca di Tortavai and from there the summit of Cadria and finally Monte Nozzolo.
With the outbreak of the Great War, in fact, men were sent to distant fronts in Galicia and Serbia, and therefore women had the task not only of caring for and preserving the land and the belongings of each family, but also of assisting and supporting the army. Every day, young mothers and daughters set off loaded with all kinds of goods (cement, boards, wire nets, barbed wire, supplies, and much other material) to reach and supply the positions located along the slopes and mountain peaks.

From the summit of Val Masun, at Bocca di Tortavai, where there is an underground fortification useful for sheltering from rain, you can continue along the Peace Trail all the way to the summit of Monte Cadria (2,254 m), thereby covering a suggestive, historic, and panoramic loop that returns to Malga Ringia.
