Hike to Sengio Alto

Reach the Sengio Alto Dolomites with many First World War ruins along the route

The Sengio Alto area, at the southeastern end of the province of Trento, was the site of important battles and massive troop movements during the First World War (which in Italy lasted from 1915 to 1918). The sector stretching from Pasubio to the Piccole Dolomiti is therefore characterized by the presence of massive military fortifications. This hiking loop takes place at the foot of two mountains (Baffelan and Cornetto) connected by a ridge scattered with observation posts, trenches, and fortifications. The presence of these First World War remnants adds another dimension to the hike. During the walk, you can also enjoy wide panoramas, especially over the Piccole Dolomiti and Pasubio.

The first part of the hike (from the start up to Passo Campogrosso) follows an old mule track that has been paved and is closed to motor vehicles. It is therefore quite possible to push a stroller as far as Rifugio Campogrosso, but the distance from Passo Pian delle Fugazze should be noted (about 6 km: an hour and a half on foot).
