Thematic trail "The Talking Forest." From Romeno Alm to Oltradige Hut.

Easy and short route on a thematic trail suitable for children and families to discover the beauty of nature and many curiosities about the animals living in these woods!

Trail no. 560 leads in a comfortable 20 minutes from the Romeno Alm to the Oltradige Hut. The trail is forest type, suitable for children as well as adults and mountain bikes. You enter a forest defined as “subalpine spruce forest,” where larches are increasingly settling among the spruces because they withstand the typical winter cold and snow at altitude better.

With a bit of luck, you might spot chamois, roe deer, and who knows, maybe a capercaillie, present in this territory. The capercaillie is a biological indicator, found only in quality forests with little human impact. Good luck!

The trail then continues for 1 km very calmly, without presenting difficult sections or significant altitude change. On the red spruces, you can often see marks on the trunks: the peculiarity is that we are constantly on the border between South Tyrol and Trentino, and each province marks its territory with indelible marks on the trunks.

After a final short climb, through the trees you glimpse the roof and smell food: finally arrived at the Oltradige Hut. Trentino definitively gives way to South Tyrol and the beautiful panoramic terrace of the hut will offer you views of the splendid Dolomite peaks and the Lagorai mountain range. The hut stands at 1773 m above sea level, still preserves its original structure (it was built in 1914!) and rises below the Roen peak.
