The trenches of Asmara
Visit to the Austro-Hungarian stronghold

The Austro-Hungarian fortified military complex of the Asmara is located near the village of Ravazzone, just minutes from Rovereto. The stronghold has become visitable again thanks to recent restoration work carried out by the Schützenkompanie Destra Ades and the association "1 Territorio 2 Fronti." Trenches and walkways, machine gun posts and observation points are visible.

During the Great War the site was a strategic point of the Austro-Hungarian defensive line that rose from the Basso Sarca towards Rovereto; its construction by the military engineering began in August 1914. With the outbreak of hostilities with the Kingdom of Italy, the garrison was on the front line operating in concert with the units deployed at the nearby strongholds of Nagià Grom, Faè and Camanghen. From April 1915 the Austro-Hungarians proceeded to arm the Asmara with artillery pieces and mine launchers.
